Breastfeeding!

Nursing my son at the park,9 1/2 months old!

Growing up i knew that i had been breastfed by my mother,i knew that i stopped nursing,somewhere around 18 months when i naturally weaned myself!
I never imagined growing up though,that i would one day be nursing a baby myself,i had dreampt of that close bond with another human being,a baby of my own,but i was never sure that was something i could ever look forward to.
i got married when i was 19 and knew that i wanted to have a family,after 2+ years of trying,it happened,we had a baby boy on the way and i was determined to be the very best mom i could, i knew this would be our only child because of my CF,and i had to do what i thought was best,what was best!!

5.16 ounces and totally perfect! About 25 minutes after he was born, while continuing skin to skin contact,the nurses and my doctor left us alone and my husband helped me take my shirt off and i put my son to my breast for the very first time!my husband and i watched intently,waiting to see if my son would latch,he licked my nipple,probably for a solid 2 minutes as we giggled together before he decided he was hungry enough and then he latched right on!! he only ate for a few minutes and then he fell asleep, it was one of the single most amazing moment of my life,knowing that i can nourish,and comfort my baby,ME, i was so proud of myself,and my husband was proud of me!!

The first 2 weeks after my son was born were the hardest,and by hardest,i mean new to me! my son ate every hour and a half, for about 20-45 minutes each time,as we were both getting used to breastfeeding,sometimes he just wanted to be close, and i allowed him to use me for comfort as well,he has never had a pacifier!after those two week it was smooth sailing and we have never looked back!

Since my son was born i have become an advocate(or Lactavist) for breastfeeding.
i want to share with the world what an amazing experience breastfeeding can be!
I want to debunk the myths,and get rid of the stigma associated with breastfeeding!
I want  to tell mothers all the things no-one else thinks to tell them!
